Danakirigala

This ancient temple is located in the middle of a picturesque paddy fields village called Pattagama. According to historical records and folklore, King Vijayabahu the Fourth hid his treasure in this area, and King Walagambha contributed to this temple. The popularity of the name Danakirigala Rock comes from the meaning of ‘hidden treasure in the rock.’

In the Kandyan era, Lewke Disease (Area administrator) renovated this through 367 granite steps to climb the top of the temple. Even today, you can climb the temple across those steps, and when you visit the top of the temple, you can see four caves blended with Buddhist statues and artworks belonging to the Kandyan era.

The rock is believed to have been a site for meditation and worship since ancient times, featuring a cave temple adorned with fascinating murals and inscriptions. Apart from the archeological and historical facts above, it can supply a breezy vibe and stunning view. Wind catchers and nature lovers can get panoramic scenery from the top of the rock with a temple because of this unique beauty.
